Have you ever thought about why only one hip or one knee develops osteoarthritis and not the other?  Why did that one particular hip/knee become bone on bone?

We often accept that osteoarthritis is the cause of our pain and is the ‘reason’ why we need a hip/knee replacement, but we fail to consider why the hip/knee cartilage broke down in the first place. This is understandable, as we usually just want to move forward with a treatment plan that will eliminate the pain.

In her book, biomechanist Katy Bowman explains, “Every unique joint configuration, and the way that joint configuration is positioned relative to gravity, and every motion created, and the way that motion was initiated, creates a unique load that in turn creates a very specific pattern of strain in the body.” So, how your hip, or any joint, is positioned–aligned or askew–determines the load and strain on the joint structures that are generated with movement.

That is why we recommend that if you are feeling signs of, or have been diagnosed with osteoarthritis, the first thing that you want to do is correct your body alignment.

Although many people find success with a qualified Chiropractor, the safest and gentlest way we know to do this is with Bowen Therapy.

Depending on the severity of the inflammation, will depend on how much MSM you would need to reduce it.  Very mild inflammation may respond to 2,000 to 3,000 mg (with 1,000 mg of vitamin C as calcium ascorbate each time as C makes MSM more effective) twice a day.  If you have severe swelling, you may need as much as 3,000 to 5,000 mg every couple of hours (along with 1,000 mg of vitamin C as calcium ascorbate each time).

Using MSM will also help build collagen which is found between your vertebrae and your joints, referred to as the “cushion” is a very strong fiber. By weight, it is stronger than steel! However, it needs sulfur cross-links to each of the fibers to achieve this remarkable strength.

Many people are deficient in this sulfur.  MSM is a sulfur supplement that allows a strong repair.

When we don’t have the ability to cross-link these fibers, the body makes keratin, the same protein that makes up your hair, nails and skin. Keratin is strong, but doesn’t have the tensile strength of collagen, so the repair made by this scar-tissue is easily damaged and re-injured.
