The body has an acid-alkaline ratio called the pH. It is measured on a scale of 0 to 14 – the lower the pH the more acidic your body and the higher the pH the more alkaline your body.
Your pH balance has a profound effect on your breathing, circulation, digestion, elimination, hormone production and immune defense.
Therefore, any health condition can be a result of over acidity. It is especially important to be aware that harmful bacteria, viruses, and cancer thrive in acidity.
WHAT HAPPENS IF YOUR BODY IS TOO ACIDIC?
Here are just a few real-life examples.
#1. You may not properly absorb or utilize your nutrients from food or supplements.
Your body can assimilate and utilize vitamins, minerals and nutrients properly only when its pH is balanced. It is therefore possible for you to be taking vitamins and minerals and other healthy nutrients and yet be unable to properly absorb or fully utilize them.
If you’re not getting the results you expected from your nutritional program, look for an acid /alkaline imbalance.
#2. Your body may make fat.
To protect you from your overly acidic condition your body may make fat and cellulite to “hold” the acid in your body at a safe distance from your organs. The fat may save your vital organs from damage, but it’s making you unhealthy and fat.
A can of soda has an average pH of 2.5, which is highly acidic! You compound your problem if you drink diet pop because artificial chemical sweeteners like NutraSweet, Equal, Splenda or aspartame are extremely acid forming. That is one of the (many) reasons diet pop can cause weight gain
#3. You could develop osteoporosis
If you are acidic, your body will use up your supply of minerals to buffer the acidity in attempt to create a balanced pH. You will use up potassium, magnesium, sodium and calcium to name just a few.
Once your mineral reserves are depleted; your body begins to rob them from other organs and systems to preserve the pH level of your blood. In fact, even though your saliva pH can vary slightly from day to day, your actual blood pH mustremain constantly balanced. Your body takes every precaution to ensure this happens.
If you do not supply ample minerals to your body, where does it get them from? The first source is your bones!! This leads to the development of osteoporosis.
Isn’t it interesting that we have been brainwashed into believing that the way to eliminate brittle bones is by increasing consumption of milk and dairy products, yet the incidence of osteoporosis in North America is getting worse not better? However, in the countries where the consumption of dairy products is very low, the instances of osteoporosis are very rare. One plausible reason is that the more dairy you consume, the more acidic you become and the more at risk of osteoporosis you are.
pH balance affects many other conditions such as
- Post nasal drip and other sinus problems
- Heartburn, Acid Reflux, GERD
- Irritable Bowel Syndrome
- Lung problems and Asthma
- Cancer (nearly all those with cancer have high acidity)
- Candida overgrowth
ARE YOU ACIDIC?
In order to answer this question, you first need a pH kit (available in our on-line store) and a plastic spoon. Once you have these, proceed with the following instructions.
- You must wait at least 2 hours after eating, drinking or brushing your teeth. Therefore, first thing in the morning is a great time to do this test.
- Carefully remove the pH test strip, avoid touching the end used for testing.
- Swallow a couple of times to clear your mouth and stimulate new saliva.
- Then discharge some saliva into a PLASTIC spoon (it is recommended NOT to touch the pH paper to your tongue due to the chemicals in the paper) and quickly dip the pH stick into saliva. Or, you can spit directly onto the strip.
- Remove any excess liquid by carefully tapping the strip. Holding the pH strip in your saliva longer than a few seconds can wash the indicator off the paper.
- Immediately compare the colour on the test strip to the pH testing chart that comes on the plastic container.
The lower your pH value below 7.0, the greater your degree of acid stress.
Your saliva pH changes slightly from day to day so if you are in balance, check weekly. If you are acidic, check daily until you are balanced. Then continue to check weekly.
THE THREE MAIN REASONS YOU BECOME ACIDIC
- FOOD AFFECTS YOUR pH VALUES
One of the main reasons you become acidic is your diet.
Animal productslike meat, eggs and dairy are acid producing. Yes, I have encouraged you to eat hormone and antibiotic free meat and eggs BUT I also urge you to create balance with alkaline-forming foods like fresh vegetables (at least 2 cups every day)
Additionally, I promote the idea of limiting your dairy consumption, having sugar free days, reducing your coffee consumption, eliminating pop and artificial sweeteners. All of these “foods” (dairy, sugar, coffee, sodas, and artificial sweeteners) are acid-producing.
You will find this very interesting. Drugs are also acid-forming. Think about it. If you are sick, and you take a drug to “get better” you will cause more acidity in your body and stress to your liver, both of which lead to illness and disease.
Stress is such a strong influencing factor, you can go from a healthy alkaline state to an unhealthy acid state within seconds simply by letting yourself get upset or frustrated.
- ATHLETES BEWARE
Lactic acid is a well-known by-product of the exercising muscle. To a large degree, it is responsible for muscular soreness and pre-mature fatigue.
Sport drinks do nothing to address the acid issue. In fact, they add to the acid problem due to the large amount of sugar ingested – these sugar drinks are basically acid-forming drinks. The same goes for fruit drinks (the sweet part of the fruit is replaced with sugar and/or high fructose corn syrup – also known as glucose/fructose).
HOW CAN YOU RESTORE pH BALANCE?

- Take steps to reduce stress such as yoga, daily exercise, journaling and meditation, etc.
- Consume more minerals.
The more minerals you ingest the easier it is to maintain the pH balance and have enough left over for all the other vital functions that minerals perform.
You can get minerals from many sources such as certified organic vegetables, bee pollen, aloe vera juice, Super Hawaiian Algae and alfalfa (over and above what is in the Total Health Packs). But for restoring pH balance your best bet is ionic minerals.
Each of us carries in our veins, a salty river. This same equilibrium can also be found in the seas around the world where macro-minerals and trace minerals have collected and concentrated in liquid ionic form since the creation of the earth itself.
All of the seas of the earth contain basically the same balance of minerals including Utah’s Great Salt Lake.
The bottom line is that the best way to give our bodies a balanced, concentrated source of essential elements is via seawater. And the purest, most concentrated seawater in the world comes from the Great Salt Lake. (Note: 99.5% of the sodium has been removed).

COLLOIDAL MINERALS ARE NOT BEST
Please don’t fall for the “colloidal minerals are best” line.
Colloidal minerals are very finely crushed inorganic minerals suspended in liquid. Just because they are very fine particles doesn’t mean that your body will accept them. These mineral particles must mix with your stomach’s hydrochloric acid, in order to become ionized before they are absorbed through your intestinal wall.
Using a mineral supplement that is already in an ionized form means better absorption and more likelihood of you getting the minerals you need.
My Ionic/Trace Mineral product is assayed for purity and potency (including testing for heavy metals). 68 minerals are identified and listed.
The one problem with any quality ionized mineral supplement is the taste of the liquid form they come in. It’s not a bad taste but it is definitely a distinct taste so most people won’t take them long term.
You can get around that by rubbing them into your skin, sprinkling them onto your food, masking the taste or by adding just a few drops at a time to your water every time you fill your glass. Voila – you have mineral water that most people pay a near fortune for!
Another method is to put a bit of water in a shot glass, add the ionic mineral drops and “shoot it back.”
The majority of people only need a total of 20 drops per day, so it’s super economical.
REPORTED BENEFITS FROM TAKING IONIC MINERALS
Besides being good for people who are acidic, ionic minerals are highly recommended for
- Constipation (take 20 drops every 2 hours until you have a bowel movement)
- Brain fog
- Irregular heartbeat and racing heart
- Edema (water retention such as swollen ankles or legs)
- Dehydration and heatstroke
If you are an athlete or very active person, you can replenish your electrolytes with ionic minerals in your drinking water instead of relying on the sugared sports drinks. You will experience increased endurance, stamina and strength, quicker recovery time. Make sure you get enough sodium through Himalayan pink salt as the ionic minerals have most of the sodium removed.
- Create a home mineral spa. Use anywhere from 3 caps up to 1 cup twice a week to ease aching muscles and joints plus. You will absorb some of the minerals through your skin. Some people will feel very relaxed from an ionic bath and some will feel quite energized. So experiment before using them in your bath just before bed.
- Nourish your plants and extend the life of your flowers. Add ¼ tsp to a gallon of water for your plants or add a few drops to the water to extend the life of cut flowers.
