I find it very fascinating that a medical world dominated by pharmaceutical drugs has only endorsed vitamin D as a supplement, whereas in the field of ophthalmology, not dominated by the Pharmaceutical Industry, advances in nutrition have progressed much further.
D. Max Snodderly, Ph.D., head of the laboratory at The Schepens Eye Research Institute in Boston, Massachusetts, an affiliate of Harvard Medical School has this to say about eye health.
“The traditional thinking is that as age increases, visual sensitivity decreases. But what we are saying is, maybe that’s not inevitable. Improved nutrition could help to retard the loss of visual sensitivity with age. Perhaps the gradual loss of vision in many older people is not an inevitable consequence of the aging process.”
In fact, researchers have found that certain eye diseases such as cataracts, glaucoma, dry eye syndrome or macular degeneration may be slowed or prevented altogether by certain vitamins and minerals.
THE BASICS
Vitamin A helps improves night vision and reduces the risks of cataracts.
Note: There is 5,000 IU Vitamin A in each Total Health Pack.
Vitamin C slows down the progression of macular degeneration when taken in combination with other antioxidants (like vitamin A and E). Vitamin C also lowers the risk of cataracts and may impact the development of glaucoma.
Note: There is 900 mg of calcium ascorbate and 180 mg of bioflavonoids in each Total Health Pack.
Vitamin D3: Recent studies show that vitamin D can protect vision as well, preventing age-related degenerative eye conditions like cataracts, macular degeneration and glaucoma.
Having too little vitamin D can delay the healing of the cornea in the event of injury or disease.
Vitamin D helps in the reduction of potentially damaging cells (macrophages). These cells have been linked to inflammation which is something that you do not want to take place in your eyes.
Researchers also saw a decrease in the amount of toxic molecule (amyloid beta) deposits. The deposits of this molecule will collect in your system as you age.
Note: There is 500 IU of Vitamin D in each Total Health Pack.
Vitamin E is an antioxidant that slows the progression of macular degeneration and protects against cataracts when taken with other antioxidants like vitamin C and lutein (found in the EyeSurance).
Note: There is 400 IU of d’alpha tocopherol vitamin E in each Total Health Pack.
Zinc helps decrease the risk of night blindness and the development of macular degeneration. It also slows down the progression of cataracts.
Note: There is 5mg of Zinc in each Total Health Pack.
Selenium in combination with antioxidants like vitamins A and C, works to decrease the risk of macular degeneration.
Note: There is 50 mcg Selenium in each Total Health Pack.
Omega-3 fatty acids have a protective effect against advanced macular degeneration (AMD). Omega-3 fats will also benefit eye health because of its anti-inflammatory effects
Note: There is 180 EPA:120 DHA Omega 3’s in each Total Health Pack.

LUTEIN AND ZEAXANTHIN
EyeSurance contains naturally sourced lutein (25 mg) and zeaxanthin (5 mg) in convenient one-per-day softgel dosage for healthy eyesight and to help prevent macular degeneration and cataracts.
EyeSurance is a potent source of two vision critical pigments, lutein and zeaxanthin, which help form a yellow filter called the macula. This specialized tissue helps protect the retina from harmful sunlight as well as blue light emitted by artificial lighting and electronic devices.
Responsible for central vision, the macula shields the part of the retina where colour and detail are distinguished. The specialized macular pigments also protect the central part of the retina responsible for visual acuity. This makes the micronutrients in EyeSurance valuable assets to preserve eyesight from the effects of both macular degeneration and cataracts.
Lutein and zeaxanthin of EyeSurance are naturally sourced from marigold flower. These two antioxidants in EyeSurance can prove to be an invaluable ally for maintaining better vision, a critical component of healthy aging.
Other ingredients: Organic sunflower oil, beeswax, and natural vitamin E (ᴅ‑alpha‑tocopherol, from sunflower) in a softgel composed of annatto extract, bovine gelatin, glycerin, and purified water.
DIRECTIONS OF USE: Adults take 1 softgel daily with a meal containing oil/fat, or as directed by your health-care practitioner.
A well-balanced approach to eye health is to take one Total Health Pack per day along with one EyeSurance.
FORSIGHT: A complete eye formula
Forsight contains important vitamins and minerals as well as key antioxidants for superior eye health.
It contains both Lutein and Zeaxanthin found in the EyeSurance as well as Astaxanthin, Ginkgo Biloba and Bilberry
Astaxanthin
Astaxanthin is a carotenoid that easily crosses into the tissues of the eye and exerts its effects safely and with potentially more potency than lutein and zeaxanthin.
Astaxanthin has been found to have protective benefits against several eye-related problems, including: cataracts, age-related macular degeneration, cystoids macula edema, diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma, retinal arterial occlusion, venous occlusion and inflammatory eye diseases such as retinitis, iritis, keratitis and scleritis.
There are only two main sources of astaxanthin: the microalgae that produce it, and the sea creatures that consume the algae (such as salmon, shellfish, and krill).
Ginkgo biloba has been shown to slow down vision loss.
Antioxidants from Bilberry and Black Currant
The most noted water-soluble antioxidants for the eye are found in black currant and bilberry. They are important for eye health because they are soluble in the thick watery substance filling the space between the lens and the cornea. This substance (the aqueous humor) maintains the intraocular pressure, provides nutrition for other ocular tissues and serves to transport antioxidants
If you are in front of a computer all day long or find that you are already challenged with eye health issue, you might want to consider adding one of our eye formulas to your daily regime.
If you who don’t need treatment for your eyes, but want to add some protection, you could take either eye formula every other month.
